MUSEUMS/STATE MUSEUM: Provides relative to the position of museum director for the Louisiana State Museum 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 25:343(A), relative to the Louisiana State Museum; to provide 3 relative to the position of museum director; to change the criteria for such position; 4 and to provide for related matters. 5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 25:343(A) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง343. Museum director; appointment; powers and duties 8 A. The museum director shall be appointed by the lieutenant governor from 9 a list of three candidates nominated by a search committee appointed by the board. 10 The lieutenant governor shall make the appointment no later than sixty days after 11 receiving the list of candidates from the search committee. Present law (R.S. 25:341) provides that the La. State Museum is established as a complex of facilities in the cities of Baton Rouge, Natchitoches, New Orleans, Patterson, Thibodaux, and Winnfield under the management and supervision of the office of the state museum of the Dept. of Culture, Recreation and Tourism (department). Provides that the museum is governed by a board of directors, which includes the secretary of the department, or his designee. Proposed law retains present law. Present law requires the lieutenant governor to appoint the museum director from a list of three candidates nominated by a search committee appointed by the board. Requires the board to establish criteria for the position of director that include but are not limited to possession of a master's degree in Museum Science, or a related field, and must provide clear evidence of successful performance as a skilled professional. Proposed law retains present law and expands the criteria for the position of director to include experience in a related field.
