ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES: Provides relative to the sale of alcoholic beverages in
Washington Parish
1 AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 26:496, relative to the sale of alcoholic beverages in Washington Parish; to
3 provide for the sale or consumption of certain alcoholic beverages in Washington
4 Parish; and to provide for related matters.
5 Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
6 as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
7 Louisiana.
8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1. R.S. 26:496 is hereby enacted to read as follows:
10 ยง496. Sale of alcoholic beverages in Washington Parish
11 Notwithstanding any provision to the contrary of this Part, Chapter 3 of this
12 Title, or any other law, but subject to the provisions of Chapters 1 and 2 of this Title,
13 the governing authorities of Washington Parish and any municipality within
14 Washington Parish may regulate but shall not prohibit the sale or consumption of
15 high or low alcohol content beverages in Washington Parish.

Abstract: Provides for the sale or consumption of high or low alcohol content beverages
in Washington Parish.
Present law provides for the statewide regulation of the sale of high and low alcoholic
beverages.
Present law provides for the local option election by local political subdivisions relative to
the sale of alcoholic beverages.
Proposed law authorizes, subject to the statewide regulations but not subject to the local
option elections, the governing authorities of Washington Parish and any municipality within
Washington Parish to regulate but not prohibit the sale or consumption of high or low
alcohol content beverages in Washington Parish.
