Abstract: Removes the requirement that an initial examination, conducted prior to issuing an
emergency certificate, be executed by a psychiatrist, a psychiatric mental health nurse
practitioner, or a psychologist in St. Tammany Parish.
Present law requires a psychiatrist, a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, or a psychologist
to conduct an in-person examination of an individual prior to issuing an emergency certificate.
Proposed law changes present law by removing the requirement that the in-person examination be
conducted by a psychiatrist, psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, or a psychologist.
