R.S. 32:361.1(C)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 8 ยง361.1. View outward or inward through windshield or windows; obscuring 9 prohibited 10 * * * 11 C. The provisions of this Section do not apply to any of the following: 12 (1) A sun screening device when used in conjunction with automotive safety 13 glazing materials on the front side window, with a light transmission of at least forty 14 twenty-five percent, all tolerances included, side window behind the driver with a 15 light transmission of at least twenty-five percent, all tolerances included, and 16 rearmost windows with a light transmission of at least twelve percent, all tolerances 17 included. [R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 119 Original 2025 Regular Session Deshotel Abstract: Reduces the allowable percentage of light transmission through any sun blocking film or device on the front side windows of a motor vehicle. Present law requires that a sun screening device used in conjunction with automotive safety glazing materials have a light transmission of at least 40% on front side windows, 25% on side windows behind the driver, and at least 12% on the rearmost windows. Further prohibits sun screening devices that have a luminous reflectance of more than 20%. Additionally, provides certain exemptions to present law. Proposed law modifies present law by changing the percentage of light transmission allowable for sun screening devices, including window tint, on the front side windows of a motor vehicle from 40% to 25%.
