WATERWAYS: Extends the period for which the Comite River is exempt from certain
provisions of the Louisiana Scenic Rivers Act
1 AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 56:1855(M)(2) and (P)(1)(introductory paragraph), relative to
3 the Louisiana Scenic Rivers Act; to extend the date for which permit exceptions are
4 allowed; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 56:1855(M)(2) and (P)(1)(introductory paragraph) are hereby
7amended and reenacted to read as follows:

12 (2) Notwithstanding other provisions of R.S. 56:1853, clearing and snagging,
13 and dredging operations for drainage purposes, in Bayou Manchac shall be permitted
14 by the department in accordance with the requirements and procedures provided for
15 in R.S. 56:1849. However, beginning May 1, 2021, through August 1, 2026
16 December 31, 2030, no provision of this Part shall require a permit for a local
17 government to conduct clearing and snagging and dredging operations for drainage
18 purposes in Bayou Manchac.

Abstract: Extends the date for which exceptions are allowed for permits under the
Louisiana Scenic Rivers Act.
Present law provides for exceptions to permitting requirements for scenic rivers until Aug.
1, 2026.
Proposed law extends the exceptions from Aug. 1, 2026, to Dec. 31, 2030.
