WILDLIFE & FISHERIES: Provides for deer sex identification requirements 1 AN ACT 2To amend and reenact R.S. 56:125(B), relative to sex identification of deer; to eliminate the 3 requirement for hunters to maintain sex identification of deer after tag validation; 4 and to provide for related matters. 5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana: 6 Section 1. R.S. 56:125(B) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows: 7 ยง125. Possession of game quadrupeds; tags; deer carcasses 8 * * * 9 B. Positive evidence of sex identification, including the head or sex organs, 10 shall remain on any deer taken or killed within the state of Louisiana, or on all turkey 11 taken or killed during any special gobbler season when killing of turkey hens is 12 prohibited, so long as such deer or turkey is kept in camp or field, or is in en route 13 to the domicile of its possessor, or until such deer or turkey has been stored at the 14 domicile of its possessor or divided at a cold storage facility and has thus become 15 identifiable as food rather than as wild game. Deer and turkey may be divided in 16 camp or field but, in the event of such division, each portion shall be identified by 17 the name, address, and license number of the person killing it and the sex of the 18 animal; however, it is not necessary to affix the license number as required above to 19 portions cut from the carcass immediately prior to their being consumed in camp. Present law requires that evidence of the sex identification of deer and turkeys be maintained even after the tag is validated. Proposed law removes the requirement that evidence of the sex identification of deer be maintained after the validation of the tag but retains the requirement for turkeys.
