SUPPLEMENTAL PAY:  Provides supplemental pay for fire protection officers for the
Lakefront Management Authority
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 40:1666.1(A)(8), relative to supplemental pay for fire protection officers; to
3 provide for state supplemental pay for fire protection officers employed by the
4 Lakefront Management Authority; to provide for an effective date; and to provide
5 for related matters.
6Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
7 Section 1.  R.S. 40:1666.1(A)(8) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
8 ยง1666.1.  Extra compensation

11	(8)(a)  Every fire protection officer who is employed on a full-time basis by
12 the Lakefront Management Authority shall be paid by the state extra compensation
13 in the amount of six hundred dollars per month in addition to the compensation now
14 paid to him by his employer out of self-generated revenue attributable to the agency
15 employing the fire protection officers.  To be eligible for the extra compensation,
16 each fire protection officer shall have completed one year of service, and any fire
17 protection officer hired after March 31, 1986, shall also have completed and passed
18 a certified fireman's training program equal to National Fire Protection Association
19 Standard 1001 Firefighter I and II Certification or a firemen's training program as

1 approved by the Louisiana State University Firemen Training Program in accordance
2 with R.S. 40:1541 et seq. and an airport rescue and firefighting certification.
3	(b)  In the event that supplemental pay is increased as provided for in
4 Paragraph (1) of this Subsection, then the same amount of supplemental pay shall be
5 increased for the officers provided for in this Paragraph.

7 Section 2.  This Act shall take effect and become operative if and when the proposed
8amendment of Article X, Section 10(A)(1)(b) of the Constitution of Louisiana contained in
9the Act which originated as House Bill No. ____ of this 2025 Regular Session of the
10Legislature is adopted at a statewide election and becomes effective.

Abstract:  Authorizes state supplemental pay for fire protection officers employed by the
Lakefront Management Authority
Present law provides state supplemental pay of $600 per month for fire protection officers
employed full-time by any municipality, parish, fire protection district, or other political
subdivision maintaining a fire department, or by the Chitimacha Tribe of Louisiana or the
Coushatta Tribe of Louisiana, or by any nonprofit corporation contracting with any such
political subdivisions to provide fire protection services.  Also provides state supplemental
pay of $600 per month to fire protection officers employed full-time by the New Orleans
Port Authority, Plaquemines Port Harbor and Terminal District, and the Port of South
Louisiana.
Proposed law retains present law and adds full-time fire protection officers of the Lakefront
Management Authority to the list of fire protection officers authorized to receive state
supplemental pay of $600 per month.
Effective if and when the proposed amendment of Article X of the Constitution of La.
contained in the Act which originated as House Bill No. ___ of this 2025 Regular Session
of the Legislature is adopted at a statewide election and becomes effective.
