PARISHES:  Provides relative to the office of parish secretary-treasurer in Acadia Parish
1	AN ACT
2To amend and reenact R.S. 33:1651(C), relative to Acadia Parish; to provide relative to the
3 office of parish secretary-treasurer; to provide for the election of a parish
4 administrator; to provide for terms; and to provide for related matters.
5	Notice of intention to introduce this Act has been published
6	as provided by Article III, Section 13 of the Constitution of
7	Louisiana.
8Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
9 Section 1.  R.S. 33:1651(C) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
10 ยง1651.  Election and term; location of office; removal for cause; exceptions

12	C. Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection A of this Section, the
13 governing authority of Acadia Parish shall elect a parish secretary-treasurer
14 administrator for a term of four years.  The secretary-treasurer's term shall be
15 concurrent with the term of the members of the parish governing authority.  The term
16 of the parish administrator shall begin two years after the beginning date of the term
17 of the members of the parish governing authority.  If a vacancy occurs other than by
18 an expiration of the term, it shall be filled by appointment by the parish governing
19 authority for the unexpired term.

1 Section 2.  The term of the secretary-treasurer in office on the effective date of this
2Act shall terminate two years after the beginning date of his term.  The term of the parish
3administrator shall begin on such termination date and his term shall terminate two years
4after the beginning date of the next term for the members of the parish governing authority. 
5The parish governing authority may hold an election to elect a parish administrator prior to
6the termination date of the term of the secretary-treasurer.

Abstract: Requires Acadia Parish to elect a parish administrator and provides for terms.
Present law generally requires police juries to elect a parish treasurer for a term of two years. 
Provides that the office of the parish treasurer shall be located at a site designated by the
local governing authority.  Requires the parish treasurer to also maintain an office at the
parish seat.
Proposed law retains present law.
Present law requires the governing authority of Acadia Parish to elect a parish secretary-
treasurer for a term of four years.  Provides that the term is concurrent with the term of the
members of the parish governing authority.
Proposed law removes present law and instead requires the governing authority of Acadia
Parish to elect a parish administrator for a term of four years.  Provides that the term shall
begin two years after the beginning date of the term of the members of the parish governing
authority.
Proposed law provides that the term of the secretary-treasurer in office on the effective date
proposed law terminates two years after the beginning date of his term.  Provides that the
term of the parish administrator begins on the termination date of the term of the secretary-
treasurer.  Additionally provides that the parish administrator's term terminates two years
after the beginning date of the next term for the members of the parish governing authority.
