[R.S. 1:13(B) and 24:177(E)] HB 424 Original 2025 Regular Session Taylor Abstract: Provides for additional early voting locations based on population or landmass, notice of early voting locations, and the reimbursement of the registrar for additional early voting locations if funds have been appropriated by the legislature to the secretary of state for that purpose. Present law provides for regular office hours that shall be maintained by the registrar's office during the early voting period. Provides for when early voting ends each day during the early voting period. Further provides that the registrar may provide for alternate early voting locations if the secretary of state determines that the office space of the registrar is insufficient or inconvenient to accommodate early voting. Proposed law retains present law. Present law provides that adequate notice be posted at the registrar's office informing the public of the location where early voting is being conducted. Proposed law retains present law and additionally provides that the notice be posted on the registrar's website and the clerk of court's website. Proposed law provides for additional early voting locations that each parish may provide at a scale of one additional location per 50,000 voters or 500 square miles of landmass. Further provides that for each additional early voting location implemented pursuant to proposed law, the secretary of state shall reimburse the registrar for expenses related to the additional early voting locations so long as the legislature appropriates funds to the secretary of state for this purpose.
