CURRICULA:  Provides relative to required instruction in financial literacy for high school
students
1	AN ACT
2To enact R.S. 17:270(B)(2)(n), relative to curricula; to add an instructional requirement in
3 the high school financial literacy course; to provide for applicability; and to provide
4 for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1.  R.S. 17:270(B)(2)(n) is hereby enacted to read as follows:
7 ยง270.  Financial literacy; required instruction

11	(2)  The topics covered by the course shall include but need not be limited to
12 the following:

14	(n)  Scholarships, grants, and other financial opportunities to pay for
15 postsecondary education.

17 Section 2.  The provisions of this Act shall be initially implemented in the 2025-2026
18school year.

Abstract:  Requires instruction in financial literacy to include financial aid for
postsecondary education.
Present law requires high school students to complete a one unit Financial Literacy course
to be eligible to graduate from a public high school, receive a diploma, and qualify for
certain financial aid.
Present law specifies minimum content components of the course.  Proposed law requires
financial aid for postsecondary education as a component.
