Abstract:  Provides for a special statewide election to be held on Sat., April 18, 2026, for the
purpose of submitting proposed constitutional amendments to the electors of the state.
Present constitution (Const. Art. XIII, ยง1(A)(1)) requires that each joint resolution proposing a
constitutional amendment specify the statewide election at which the proposed constitutional
amendment shall be submitted to the state's electors for ratification.  Provides that special elections
for submitting proposed constitutional amendments may be authorized by law.
Proposed law provides for a special election on Sat., April 18, 2026, for the purpose of submitting
to the state's electors proposed constitutional amendments contained in joint resolutions concurred
in during the 2025 R.S.  Provides that proposed law shall be void and of no effect if no proposed
constitutional amendment that specifies the special statewide election on April 18, 2026, as the
statewide election at which the proposed constitutional amendment shall be submitted to the electors
is concurred in.
Proposed law provides that the election shall be held in compliance with applicable provisions of
present law (La. Election Code).
Effective upon signature of governor or lapse of time for gubernatorial action.
