Abstract: Removes the age limitation for judges to serve in the office of judge and provides that
a judge shall not remain in office after reaching his maximum retirement  compensation.
Present constitution provides that a judge shall not remain in office beyond his 70th birthday, but
also provides that he may remain in office until the completion of his term if he attains 70 years of
age while serving a term of office.
Proposed constitutional amendment removes the present constitution age limitation and provides that
a judge shall not remain in office after reaching his maximum retirement  compensation.
Proposed constitutional amendment applies to all judges sworn in to the office of judge on or after
Jan. 1,1997.
Provides for submission of the proposed amendment to the voters at the statewide election to be held
Nov. 3, 2026, or at a statewide election authorized by law, whichever occurs first.
