INSURANCE/GROUP-SHERI FFS: Provides relative to qualifications for participation in
the Employee Insurance Fund for the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office

2To amend and reenact R.S. 13:5554(JJ)(1), relative to the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's
3 Office; to provide for insurance premium payments for sheriff and deputy sheriff
4 retirees; to provide for applicability; and to provide for related matters.
5Be it enacted by the Legislature of Louisiana:
6 Section 1. R.S. 13:5554(JJ)(1) is hereby amended and reenacted to read as follows:
7 ยง5554. Group insurance; kinds; amounts; subrogation

9 JJ.(1) Notwithstanding the provisions of Subsection D of this Section, the
10 premium costs of group hospital, surgical, and medical expense and the first ten
11 thousand dollars of life insurance contracted for under the provisions of this Section
12 shall be paid in full by the sheriff of Jefferson Davis Parish, from the sheriff's general
13 fund, for all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs retired from the Jefferson Davis Parish
14 Sheriff's Office who were hired on or after July 1, 2018, who are entitled to receive
15 benefits from the Sheriff's Pension and Relief Fund, who have at least fifteen twelve
16 years of service of the required fifteen years with the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's
17 Office, and who are at least fifty-five years of age or retired with at least thirty years
18 of service at any age with the required twelve years of service with the Jefferson
19 Davis Parish Sheriff's Office.

Abstract: Specifies the requirements for sheriffs and deputy sheriffs who retire and become
eligible for payment of group insurance premium costs from the Jefferson Davis
Parish Sheriff's Office.
Present law provides that the premium costs of group hospital, surgical, and medical expense
and the first $10,000 of life insurance contracted for under the provisions of present law shall
be paid in full by the sheriff of Jefferson Davis Parish, from the sheriff's general fund, for
all sheriffs and deputy sheriffs retired from the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office who
were hired on or after July 1, 2018, who are entitled to receive benefits from the Sheriff's
Pension and Relief Fund, have at least 15 years of service with the Jefferson Davis Parish
Sheriff's Office, and are at least 55 years of age.
Proposed law amends present law to change the required amount of years of service with the
Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office from 15 years of service to 12 years of service of the
required 15 years.
Proposed law further provides for an additional eligibility option for all sheriffs and deputy
sheriffs who retire from the Jefferson Davis Parish Sheriff's Office with at least 30 years of
service at any age with the required 12 years of service with the Jefferson Davis Parish
Sheriff's Office.
