HONORARY DESIGNATIONS: Designates the town of Ball, Louisiana, as the Moon Pie
Capital of Louisiana
1 A CONCURRENT RESOL UTION
2To designate the town of Ball, Louisiana, as the Moon Pie Capital of Louisiana.
3 WHEREAS, Moon Pies are often associated with Mardi Gras and the South, and
4pairing the treat with an RC Cola is a favorite pastime; and
5 WHEREAS, the town of Ball, Louisiana, hosted its first-ever festival, the Moon Pie
6Festival, on March 23, 2024; the festival included an opening ceremony, a Moon Pie 5K
7race, a costume contest, Moon Pie cutouts for photos, a Moon Pie eating contest, and a host
8of children's activities; and
9 WHEREAS, Moon Pie Festival-goers were also able to enjoy beloved songs such as
10"Gimme an RC Cola and a Moon Pie" by Big Bill Lister, "Lifestyles of the Not So Rich and
11Famous" by Tracy Byrd, "Moon Pie" by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, and "The
12Moonpie Song" by Bobby Mitchell; and
13 WHEREAS, Moon Pies are made in Chattanooga, Tennessee, by Chattanooga
14Bakery, who gave the town of Ball its approval to host the Moon Pie Festival.
15 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby
16designate the town of Ball, Louisiana, as the Moon Pie Capital of Louisiana, and does hereby
17extend sincerest wishes that the town receive the support necessary to continue this beautiful
18tradition for many years to come.
