HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 18

COMMENDATIONS:  Commends the St. Mary's Dominican High School swim team on
winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2024 Division I state
championship
1	A RESOLUTION
2To commend the St. Mary's Dominican High School swim team on winning the Louisiana
3 High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) 2024 Division I state championship.
4 WHEREAS, the St. Mary's Dominican High School swim team claimed the 2024
5Division I state title in dominating fashion, scoring 411.5 total points and fifty-seven more
6points than the runner-up; and
7 WHEREAS, Dominican Head Coach Bret Hanemann inspired his team to bounce
8back from last season's heartbreak of falling one point short of claiming the 2023 Division I
9state title; and
10 WHEREAS, Dominican swimmers claimed a number of individual state titles during
11the LHSAA 2024 State Swim Meet Finals; Terese Vocke won the 500-yard freestyle,
12Kendall Jollands claimed the titles in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke,
13and Haley Valdine won the 200-yard individual medley; and
14 WHEREAS, the team won two relay state titles; Annalise Gagliano, Haley Valdine,
15Kayleigh Jollands, and Kendall Jollands won the 200-yard medley relay, and Virginia
16Robinson, Terese Vocke, Kendall Jollands, and Annalise Gagliano won the 400-yard
17freestyle relay; and
18 WHEREAS, Dominican swimmers claimed several individual honors following the
19state swim meet; Sydney Ranson won the Lou Reilly Award, which is presented to athletes
20who continually improve their skills and listen to their teammates and coaches; Haley

1Valdine was named to the LHSAA All-Academic 4.0 Composite Team, an award presented
2for exemplary academic achievement by maintaining the highest grade point average among
3all athletes during their academic career while participating in varsity high school athletics;
4Kayleigh Jollands, Sydney Ranson, and Virginia Robinson were named to the LHSAA All-
5Academic Team, an award presented for outstanding academic achievement by maintaining
6a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 during their academic career while
7participating in varsity high school athletics; and
8 WHEREAS, the coaches and members of the St. Mary's Dominican High School
9swim team are most deserving of the highest recognition for their incredible achievements
10throughout the season and during the LHSAA 2024 State Swim Meet.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
12Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the St. Mary's Dominican High School swim
13team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2024 Division I state
14championship and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the coaches and members of the
15team continue their excellent work and always strive for greatness.
