HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 18
BY REPRESENTATIVE SCHLEGEL
A RESOLUTION
To commend the St. Mary's Dominican High School swim team on winning the Louisiana
High School Athletic Association (LHSAA) 2024 Division I state championship.
WHEREAS, the St. Mary's Dominican High School swim team claimed the 2024
Division I state title in dominating fashion, scoring 411.5 total points and fifty-seven more
points than the runner-up; and
WHEREAS, Dominican Head Coach Bret Hanemann inspired his team to bounce
back from last season's heartbreak of falling one point short of claiming the 2023 Division I
state title; and
WHEREAS, Dominican swimmers claimed a number of individual state titles during
the LHSAA 2024 State Swim Meet Finals; Terese Vocke won the 500-yard freestyle,
Kendall Jollands claimed the titles in the 100-yard butterfly and the 100-yard backstroke,
and Haley Valdine won the 200-yard individual medley; and
WHEREAS, the team won two relay state titles; Annalise Gagliano, Haley Valdine,
Kayleigh Jollands, and Kendall Jollands won the 200-yard medley relay, and Virginia
Robinson, Terese Vocke, Kendall Jollands, and Annalise Gagliano won the 400-yard
freestyle relay; and
WHEREAS, Dominican swimmers claimed several individual honors following the
state swim meet; Sydney Ranson won the Lou Reilly Award, which is presented to athletes
who continually improve their skills and listen to their teammates and coaches; Haley
Valdine was named to the LHSAA All-Academic 4.0 Composite Team, an award presented
for exemplary academic achievement by maintaining the highest grade point average among
all athletes during their academic career while participating in varsity high school athletics;

Kayleigh Jollands, Sydney Ranson, and Virginia Robinson were named to the LHSAA All-
Academic Team, an award presented for outstanding academic achievement by maintaining
a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 during their academic career while
participating in varsity high school athletics; and
WHEREAS, the coaches and members of the St. Mary's Dominican High School
swim team are most deserving of the highest recognition for their incredible achievements
throughout the season and during the LHSAA 2024 State Swim Meet.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the St. Mary's Dominican High School swim
team on winning the Louisiana High School Athletic Association 2024 Division I state
championship and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that the coaches and members of the
team continue their excellent work and always strive for greatness.
