HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 28
BY REPRESENTATIVE DAVIS
A RESOLUTION
To designate Wednesday, April 16, 2025, as AARP Louisiana Caregiver Day at the state
capitol.
WHEREAS, Louisiana ranks forty-fifth in the nation on the Long Term Services and
Supports State Scorecard; and
WHEREAS, in Louisiana, there are an estimated six hundred thirty thousand family
caregivers who provide care to adult relatives or friends; the economic value of this care
amounts to around $6.9 billion each year; and
WHEREAS, there are eleven thousand two hundred fifty individuals on waiting lists
to receive assistance with day-to-day activities and housework; and
WHEREAS, nearly 90% of elderly Louisianians in need of assistance wish to remain
in their homes and communities, where they can receive the support of friends and family
as they age; and
WHEREAS, nearly three out of every four elderly individuals who receive at-home
assistance rely exclusively on unpaid family caregivers.
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
Legislature of Louisiana does hereby designate Wednesday, April 16, 2025, as AARP
Louisiana Caregiver Day at the state capitol and does hereby encourage all Louisianians to
support caregivers and acknowledge their impact on the lives of the elderly in our state.
