SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH: Designates April 23, 2025, as Louisiana Counseling
Association Day at the state capitol and commends the members of the Louisiana
Counseling Association
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend the Louisiana Counseling Association and to recognize Wednesday, April 23,
3 2025, as Louisiana Counseling Association Day at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, approximately one in four adults in the United States experiences a
5diagnosable mental disorder in a given year; and
6 WHEREAS, significant percentages of America's homeless population, prisoners,
7and youth in juvenile justice systems live with a serious mental illness; and
8 WHEREAS, in order to help meet the demand for more effective mental health
9services, the Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA) was chartered in 1968 as a state brand
10of the American Counseling Association; and
11 WHEREAS, the LCA encompasses a broad spectrum of groups in the field of
12professional counseling, and, for its members, provides an opportunity to share information
13and grow professionally; and
14 WHEREAS, the LCA is a professional association that represents the many
15professional counselors in various work settings, including licensed professional counselors
16(LPCs), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFTs), school counselors, college
17counselors, college educators, substance abuse counselors, career counselors, college
18educators, substance abuse counselors, career counselors, multicultural counselors, and
19religious counselors; and

1 WHEREAS, the purposes of the LCA include to organize, administer, and manage
2the structure of the organization so that it can more effectively fulfill its mission; to promote
3personal and professional development within the counseling profession; to promote
4professionalism within the counseling profession; to support public policy and legislation
5which enhances the counseling profession; and to promote the creation of knowledge and
6the dissemination of research within the counseling profession; and
7 WHEREAS, the LCA has six thousand three hundred seventy-six member counselors
8across the state of Louisiana; and
9 WHEREAS, because the men and women of the LCA have made a significant and
10positive influence in LCA standing committees throughout the state, the members of the
11association merit a special measure of commendation.
12 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
13Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend the members of the Louisiana Counseling
14Association for their unwavering commitment to excellence in serving the citizens of
15Louisiana and does hereby designate Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as Louisiana Counseling
16Association Day at the state capitol.
17 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
18president of the Louisiana Counseling Association.
