COMMENDATIONS: Commends Coach Danny Broussard on his illustrious forty-two-year
coaching career
1 A RESOLUTION
2To commend Coach Danny Broussard on his illustrious forty-two-year coaching career.
3 WHEREAS, Danny Broussard has served as the head coach of the St. Thomas More
4Catholic High School Cougars boys' basketball team for forty-two years; over the course of
5his legendary coaching career, he has amassed an incredible 1,162-355 career record and
6345-82 district record; and
7 WHEREAS, this past season, Coach Broussard led the Cougars to the team's thirty-
8fourth-consecutive playoff appearance, which also marks the program's forty-first playoff
9appearance in St. Thomas More Catholic High School's forty-three-year history; the Cougars
10have averaged an astounding twenty-eight wins per season over the course of his coaching
11career; and
12 WHEREAS, Coach Broussard led the Cougars to state championship victories in
131986, 2013, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021, and his teams have made nineteen LHSAA Final
14Four appearances; his teams also finished as the state runner-up in 1987, 1999, 2003, 2024,
15and 2025; and
16 WHEREAS, Coach Broussard has received numerous awards and accolades for his
17outstanding coaching success; he was named the 1986 Class 3A Coach of the Year, the 1997
18Class 4A Coach of the Year, the 1999 Class 4A Coach of the Year, and the 2013 NOLA.com
19Coach of the Year; he is a nine-time All-Acadiana Coach of the Year, ten-time Lafayette
20Parish Outstanding Coach, and twenty-six-time District Coach of the Year; his most

1cherished awards are the 1991 STM Teacher of the Year and the 1991 Diocese of Lafayette
2Teacher of the Year; and
3 WHEREAS, Coach Broussard was inducted into the Louisiana High School
4Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 2018; in 2021, he was recognized as the
5NHSACA Boys Basketball Coach of the Year, and in 2022, he was one of eight finalists for
6the National Coach of the Year Award; and
7 WHEREAS, Coach Broussard led the West Team to victory during the McDonald's
8All-American Game at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, in April 2025, and he
9will be inducted into the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame in June 2025; and
10 WHEREAS, Coach Broussard has shared forty-two years of marriage with Dena
11Landry Broussard; they are the proud parents of Lacey, Paige, and Chase, and grandparents
12of Mills and Henry; and
13 WHEREAS, Coach Broussard has the third-most career wins among active head
14coaches in United States high school basketball; according to the National Federation of
15State High School Associations, he is ranked sixth nationally for all-time wins as a high
16school basketball coach, which is twenty-five wins behind legendary basketball coach, Bob
17Hurley; and
18 WHEREAS, Coach Danny Broussard is a truly outstanding leader who is most
19deserving of the highest recognition for his legendary coaching career and massive
20contributions to Louisiana high school basketball.
21 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the
22Legislature of Louisiana does hereby commend Coach Danny Broussard on his illustrious
23forty-two-year coaching career and does hereby extend sincerest wishes that he continue to
24prosper as he builds upon an already legendary coaching legacy.
