ENROLLED 2025 Regular Session HOUSE RESOLUTION NO. 95 BY REPRESENTATIVE OWEN A RESOLUTION To celebrate the anniversary of the end of the Korean War, to honor the sacrifices of Louisiana's veterans, and to recognize their contributions to preserving democracy in the Korean Peninsula. WHEREAS, at the conclusion of World War II, an agreement between the United States and the former Soviet Union divided the country of Korea at the arbitrary border commensurate with the 38th parallel; and WHEREAS, between 1945 and 1949, the Korean Peninsula was split into a communist North and a democratic South; and WHEREAS, on June 25th, 1949, the North Koreans attacked the South Koreans in the name of communism and for the purpose of consolidating the peninsula under the rule of Stalinist tyrants; and WHEREAS, the United States entered the fight in 1950 to protect democracy in the region; and WHEREAS, over thirty-six thousand American warriors lost their lives in this conflict, alongside one hundred thirty-seven thousand South Koreans and four thousand allies from other countries such as the United Kingdom, Australia, and Turkey; and WHEREAS, two thousand fifty-five of Louisiana's sons lost their lives in the Korean War, making the ultimate sacrifice in defense of freedom; and WHEREAS the war lasted for a full four years, ending with an armistice that was signed to cease hostilities in July of 1953, and the establishment of a two and one-half mile demilitarized zone, which exists to this day; and WHEREAS, we honor those Louisiana Korean War veterans who have returned home, whose courage and service continue to inspire our state and nation. Page 1 of 2 HR NO. 95 ENROLLED THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby celebrate all those who sacrificed in the name of freedom and the ending of the Korean War in July of 1953. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the House of Representatives of the Legislature of Louisiana hereby commemorates the anniversary of the Korean Armistice Agreement on July 27, 1953, and expresses profound gratitude to all Korean War veterans, especially those from Louisiana, for their selfless dedication to liberty and justice. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the Louisiana Department of Veterans Affairs and the Louisiana Korean War Veterans Association.
