SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 13
BY SENATOR FOIL 
CONDOLENCES. Expresses sincere and heartfelt condolences to the family and friends of
Dorothy McGehee Miller on the occasion of her passing.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of
3 Louisiana upon the passing of Dorothy McGehee Miller.
4 WHEREAS, Dorothy McGehee Miller was born on May 1, 1932, to William Herchel
5 McGehee and Gladys Lawler McGehee; and 
6 WHEREAS, she lived most of her life in Bogalusa, Louisiana and always considered
7 that community her home; and
8 WHEREAS, she graduated from Bogalusa High School and earned nursing degrees
9 from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing and Northwestern Louisiana University; and
10 WHEREAS, her commitment to lifelong learning led her to attain a Masters Degree
11 in counseling from Louisiana Baptist University; and
12 WHEREAS, Dorothy McGehee Miller taught nursing at Northshore Technical
13 Community College, where she would eventually retire as the Director of Nursing; and 
14 WHEREAS, her unwavering dedication to both her students and patients set a
15 powerful example for educators and healthcare professionals across Louisiana; and 
16 WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, she viewed her work in nursing as
17 a ministry, dedicated to serving others and sharing God's love with all; and
18 WHEREAS, whether tending to patients or guiding students, her mission was to

1 touch lives and inspire others with the hope of advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and
2 WHEREAS, Dorothy McGehee Miller's commitment to excellence in education was
3 recognized when she was honored as Instructor of the Year by the Region II Division of the
4 Louisiana Vocational Association in 1977, named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the
5 Louisiana Vocational Association in 1990, and in 1996 she was selected as one of the Great
6 100 Nurses of Louisiana by the New Orleans District Nurses Association; and
7 WHEREAS, she was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Bogalusa, where
8 she served in many leadership roles, including youth ministry for over twenty-five years; and
9 WHEREAS, she was actively involved in numerous local boards and committees,
10 including the Bogalusa Community Medical Center, Louisiana State Nurses Association,
11 Washington Parish American Heart Association, Childcare Center of Bogalusa, Regina Coeli
12 Child Development Center of St. Tammany Parish, Nellie Byers Training Center, Bogalusa
13 Mental Health Clinic, and Washington Parish EMS Council; and 
14 WHEREAS, her unwavering dedication to improving her community earned her the
15 distinguished honor of being named Bogalusa Citizen of the Year in 2002; and 
16 WHEREAS, on January 14, 2025, after being an angel on this earth for ninety-two
17 years, she peacefully went to be with her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and spend all of
18 eternity with her beloved husband and soul mate, Shirley James Miller; and
19 WHEREAS, Dorothy McGehee Miller is survived by her devoted daughter, Martha
20 Miller Rome and husband, Jeffrey, her granddaughter, Juliana Rome Meyers and husband,
21 Stephen, and great-grandchildren, Sophie James, Miller Alane, and Joseph Stephen Meyers.
22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
23 does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences to the friends, family, and all whose
24 lives were made better for having known Dorothy McGehee Miller.
25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to
26 Dorothy McGehee Miller's daughter, Martha Miller Rome.
