2025 Regular Session ENROLLED SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 13 BY SENATOR FOIL A RESOLUTION To express the sincere and heartfelt condolences of the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana upon the passing of Dorothy McGehee Miller. WHEREAS, Dorothy McGehee Miller was born on May 1, 1932, to William Herchel McGehee and Gladys Lawler McGehee; and WHEREAS, she lived most of her life in Bogalusa, Louisiana and always considered that community her home; and WHEREAS, she graduated from Bogalusa High School and earned nursing degrees from Hotel Dieu School of Nursing and Northwestern Louisiana University; and WHEREAS, her commitment to lifelong learning led her to attain a Masters Degree in counseling from Louisiana Baptist University; and WHEREAS, Dorothy McGehee Miller taught nursing at Northshore Technical Community College, where she would eventually retire as the Director of Nursing; and WHEREAS, her unwavering dedication to both her students and patients set a powerful example for educators and healthcare professionals across Louisiana; and WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, she viewed her work in nursing as a ministry, dedicated to serving others and sharing God's love with all; and WHEREAS, whether tending to patients or guiding students, her mission was to touch lives and inspire others with the hope of advancing the Gospel of Jesus Christ; and WHEREAS, Dorothy McGehee Miller's commitment to excellence in education was recognized when she was honored as Instructor of the Year by the Region II Division of the Louisiana Vocational Association in 1977, named Outstanding Teacher of the Year by the Louisiana Vocational Association in 1990, and in 1996 she was selected as one of the Great 100 Nurses of Louisiana by the New Orleans District Nurses Association; and WHEREAS, she was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Bogalusa, where she served in many leadership roles, including youth ministry for over twenty-five years; and Page 1 of 2 SR NO. 13 ENROLLED WHEREAS, she was actively involved in numerous local boards and committees, including the Bogalusa Community Medical Center, Louisiana State Nurses Association, Washington Parish American Heart Association, Childcare Center of Bogalusa, Regina Coeli Child Development Center of St. Tammany Parish, Nellie Byers Training Center, Bogalusa Mental Health Clinic, and Washington Parish EMS Council; and WHEREAS, her unwavering dedication to improving her community earned her the distinguished honor of being named Bogalusa Citizen of the Year in 2002; and WHEREAS, on January 14, 2025, after being an angel on this earth for ninety-two years, she peacefully went to be with her Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, and spend all of eternity with her beloved husband and soul mate, Shirley James Miller; and WHEREAS, Dorothy McGehee Miller is survived by her devoted daughter, Martha Miller Rome and husband, Jeffrey, her granddaughter, Juliana Rome Meyers and husband, Stephen, and great-grandchildren, Sophie James, Miller Alane, and Joseph Stephen Meyers. THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana does hereby express sincere and heartfelt condolences to the friends, family, and all whose lives were made better for having known Dorothy McGehee Miller.
