SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 24

SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Commends the Louisiana Counseling Association and
recognizes Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as Louisiana Counseling Association Day at the state
capitol.
1 A RESOLUTION
2 To commend the Louisiana Counseling Association and to recognize Wednesday, April 23,
3 2025, as Louisiana Counseling Association Day at the state capitol.
4 WHEREAS, approximately one in four adults in the United States experiences a
5 diagnosable mental disorder in a given year; and
6 WHEREAS, significant percentages of America's homeless population, prisoners,
7 and youth in juvenile justice systems live with a serious mental illness; and
8 WHEREAS, in order to help meet the need for more and better mental health
9 services, the Louisiana Counseling Association (LCA) was chartered in 1968 as a state
10 branch of the American Counseling Association; and
11 WHEREAS, the LCA encompasses a broad spectrum of groups in the field of
12 professional counseling, and, for its members, the association provides an opportunity to
13 share information and grow professionally; and
14 WHEREAS, the LCA is a professional association that represents the many
15 professional counselors in various work settings, including licensed professional counselors
16 (LPC's), licensed marriage and family therapists (LMFT's), school counselors, college
17 counselors, college educators, substance abuse counselors, career counselors, multicultural
18 counselors, and religious counselors; and

1 WHEREAS, the purposes of the LCA include to organize, administer, and manage
2 the structure of the organization so that it can more effectively fulfill its mission; to promote
3 personal and professional development within the counseling profession; to promote
4 professionalism within the counseling profession; to support public policy and legislation
5 which enhances the counseling profession; and to promote the creation of knowledge and
6 the dissemination of research within the counseling profession; and
7 WHEREAS, the LCA represents 6,376 counselors across the state of Louisiana; and
8 WHEREAS, because the men and women of the LCA have made a significant and
9 positive influence in communities throughout the state, the members of the association merit
10 a special measure of commendation.
11 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
12 does hereby commend the members of the Louisiana Counseling Association for their
13 unwavering commitment to excellence in serving the citizens of Louisiana and does hereby
14 designate Wednesday, April 23, 2025, as Louisiana Counseling Association Day at the state
15 capitol.
16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
17 president of the Louisiana Counseling Association.
