Commends and congratulates The Falcons swamp-pop band on being inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. 1 A RESOLUTION 2 To commend The Falcons swamp-pop band for being inducted into the Louisiana Music 3 Hall of Fame. 4 WHEREAS, The Falcons, a 1950s swamp-pop group from the Pointe Coupee area, 5 was inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame on March 25, 2024, joining Mahalia 6 Jackson, Louis Armstrong, and Randy Newman, among many other distinguished artists; 7 and 8 WHEREAS, Donald "Duck" Miletello, C.J. Miletello, Nolan "Nunzio" Miletello, 9 Wilson Angelle, Cecil Bizette, Frankie Hillyard, Glynn Delatte, Leroy "Rocky" Jarreau, 10 Frank "Wayne" Zito, and Everett Brady are credited with being the original members of The 11 Falcons; and 12 WHEREAS, the group is named after the senior Miletello's love for the Ford Falcon, 13 the iconic American car of the 1950s and '60s; and 14 WHEREAS, Salvadore "Sam" Miletello served as the band's manager and booking 15 agent; and 16 WHEREAS, Donald "Duck" Miletello, C.J. Miletello, Cecil Bizette, Frankie 17 Hillyard, Glynn Delatte, Leroy "Rocky" Jarreau, and Everett Brady are the group's surviving 18 members who were in attendance to accept the award on behalf of the members who have Page 1 of 3 SR NO. 29 SLS 25RS-471 ORIGINAL 1 since passed away; and 2 WHEREAS, the group that started out playing beat-up instruments from school 3 became fan favorites while providing sixty years of timeless music; and 4 WHEREAS, The Falcons landed its first paid gig at a wedding in 1957; and 5 WHEREAS, The Falcons often traveled to Texas, Arkansas, Mississippi, and 6 Alabama, playing backup for Dale & Grace, who later became the most recognized name 7 in the R&B subgenre of swamp-pop, and even played some of the same venues as Elvis 8 Presley, the Boogie Kings, and Buddy Guy; and 9 WHEREAS, music is one of Louisiana's greatest resources; and 10 WHEREAS, The Falcons recorded seven albums along with six forty-five singles; 11 and 12 WHEREAS, some of The Falcons' music was recorded at Cosimo Mattassa's 13 recording studio in New Orleans, and Joseph Denton "J.D." Miller's studio in Crowley, 14 Louisiana; and 15 WHEREAS, Louisiana is the birthplace of many of the world's unique musical styles, 16 including jazz, blues, zydeco, swamp pop, rock and roll, gospel, country, bounce, rhythm 17 and blues, and Cajun music; and 18 WHEREAS, the Falcons' immortalization in the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame 19 comes decades after the band stopped playing together, but being inducted into the fraternity 20 of Louisiana musicians cements The Falcons as an official part of this state's rich music 21 history. 22 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana 23 does hereby commend The Falcons swamp-pop band for being inducted into the Louisiana 24 Music Hall of Fame, and does hereby extend sincere well wishes to its members. 25 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to Leroy 26 "Rocky" Jarreau, C.J. Miletello, Cecil Bizette, Frankie Hillyard, Glynn Delatte, Everett 27 Brady, and Donald "Duck" Miletello. 28 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the 29 families of Nolan "Nunzio" Miletello, Wilson Angelle, Frank "Wayne" Zito, and Salvadore 30 "Sam" Miletello.
