SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 48
BY SENATOR MCMATH 
SPECIAL DAY/WEEK/MONTH. Designates May 6, 2025, as Alzheimer's and Related
Dementias Awareness Day at the Louisiana State Capitol.
1	A RESOLUTION
2 To designate May 6, 2025, as Alzheimer's and Related Dementias Awareness Day at the
3 Louisiana State Capitol.
4 WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a progressive neurodegenerative brain disorder
5 which robs individuals of their memories, leads to significant mental and physical
6 impairments, and impacts caregivers of loved ones with Alzheimer's; and
7 WHEREAS, the Alzheimer's Association is leading the way to end Alzheimer's and
8 all other dementias by accelerating global research, driving risk reduction and early
9 detection, and maximizing quality care and support; and
10 WHEREAS, Alzheimer's and Related Dementias Awareness Day serves as an
11 opportunity to educate Louisiana residents on Alzheimer's and dementia, support those
12 affected by the disease, and take proactive measures to maintain brain health; and
13 WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a public health crisis in Louisiana; and
14 WHEREAS, 95,000 Louisiana adults aged 65 and older are living with Alzheimer's
15 and 13.6% of people aged 45 and older have subjective cognitive decline; and
16 WHEREAS, 168,000 caregivers are providing 256,000,000 hours of unpaid care at
17 a value of $3,428,000,000; and
18 WHEREAS, it is important to recognize the stories, strengths, and efforts of

1 individuals, advocates, families, and caregivers impacted by Alzheimer's disease.
2 THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
3 does hereby designate May 6, 2025, as Alzheimer's and Related Dementias Awareness Day
4 at the Louisiana State Capitol.
5 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to the
6 executive director of the Alzheimer's Association, Louisiana Chapter.
