Relates to criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree; increases penalties for possession of a weapon on subways and mass transit trains.
Enacts the safe subways act creating a subway safety command force responsible for coordinating public safety, homelessness intervention services, the orderly flow of riders in and out of the subway system, compliance with fare collection, and the cosmetic appearance of subway trains and stations.
Permits courts to remand a principal to the custody of the sheriff for felony offenses involving the possession of firearms and weapons.
Relates to prohibiting the possession of certain 50 caliber firearms; directs the division of state police to embark on a program whereby persons currently in lawful possession of such weapons may be reimbursed for the fair market value thereof upon turning in such weapons to a designated officer.
