The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act relative to creditable service in the armed forces of the United States. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Section 3 of Chapter 71 of the Acts of 1996, as most recently amended by 2chapter 468 of the acts of 2002, is hereby amended by striking the second paragraph. 3 SECTION 2. Paragraph (h) of subdivision (1) of section 4 of chapter 32 of the General 4Laws is hereby amended by inserting the following sentence at the end of the fourth paragraph:- 5Members in service of a retirement system eligible for such creditable service under this 6paragraph shall make application for such creditable service and complete all makeup payments 7while a member in service and before the date any retirement allowance becomes effective.
