Mark (by vote of the town) that all future members of the police department of the town of Great Barrington be exempt from the civil service law. Public Service. [Local Approval Received.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Third General Court (2023-2024) _______________ An Act exempting all future members of the police department of the town of Great Barrington from the civil service law. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 SECTION 1. Notwithstanding any general or special law to the contrary, all future 2members of the police department of the town of Great Barrington shall be exempt from chapter 331 of the General Laws. 4 SECTION 2. This act shall not impair the civil service status of a person holding a 5position described in section 1 on the effective date of this act. 6 SECTION 3. Notwithstanding the provisions of Section 2, no appointments or 7promotions made after the effective date of this act will be governed in any way by chapter 31 of 8the General Laws. 9 SECTION 4. This act shall take effect upon its passage.
