An Act relative to the definition of livestock.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 Section 1A of Chapter 128 of the General Laws, as appearing in the 2020 Official 
2Edition, is hereby amended by inserting after the word “horses”, the following words:- but not 
3including dogs or cats,
4 Section 1A: Farming, agriculture, farmer; definitions
5 Section 1A. ''Farming'' or ''agriculture'' shall include farming in all of its branches and the 
6cultivation and tillage of the soil, dairying, the production, cultivation, growing and harvesting of 
7any agricultural, aquacultural, floricultural or horticultural commodities, the growing and 
8harvesting of forest products upon forest land, the raising of livestock including horses, but not 
9including dogs or cats, the keeping of horses as a commercial enterprise, the keeping and raising 
10of poultry, swine, cattle and other domesticated animals used for food purposes, bees, fur-
11bearing animals, and any forestry or lumbering operations, performed by a farmer, who is hereby 
12defined as one engaged in agriculture or farming as herein defined, or on a farm as an incident to  2 of 2
13or in conjunction with such farming operations, including preparations for market, delivery to 
14storage or to market or to carriers for transportation to market.
