[SIMILAR MATTER FILED IN PREVIOUS SESSION SEE HOUSE, NO. 292 OF 2023-2024.] The Commonwealth of Massachusetts _______________ In the One Hundred and Ninety-Fourth General Court (2025-2026) _______________ An Act relative to preventing illegal alcohol sales. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows: 1 Section 23 of chapter 138 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting after the 2final paragraph, the following new paragraph:- 3 The in-store sale of alcoholic beverages by a licensee engaged in the sale of alcoholic 4beverages as so authorized under the provisions of this section shall be conducted through a face- 5to-face transaction between the customer and the licensee or between the customer and an 6authorized employee of the licensee who has attained the age of 18 years. In-store automated or 7self-checkout sales of alcoholic beverages by such licensees shall be prohibited.
