An Act relative to the protection of police officers.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled, and by the authority 
of the same, as follows:
1 Section 15A of Chapter 265 of the General Laws is hereby amended by inserting at the 
2end the following new subsection:-
3 (e) Whoever commits assault with a dangerous weapon by discharging a firearm, large 
4capacity weapon, rifle, shotgun, sawed-off shotgun or machine gun, as defined in section 121 of 
5chapter 140, with the intent to physically harm a police officer, special police officer, state or 
6federal law enforcement officer, firefighter, officer or employee of the department of correction, 
7officer or employee of a sheriff's department, officer or employee of a jail or officer or employee 
8of a house of correction in the performance of the officer’s duties, shall be punished by 
9imprisonment in a state prison for no less than 25 years and up to any term of years.
