BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 27 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 28 Article – Courts and Judicial Proceedings 29 2–333. 30 (b) (1) The Sheriff of Somerset County shall receive an annual salary of not 31 less than [$75,000] $85,000. 32 Article – Criminal Procedure 33 15–420. 34 (a) This section applies only in Somerset County. 35 HOUSE BILL 382 3 (b) The State’s Attorney’s salary is [$113,066] 80% OF THE SALARY OF A JUDGE 1 OF THE DISTRICT COURT OF MARYLAND. 2 Article – Estates and Trusts 3 2–101. 4 In the estates of decedents law, the word “court” means the orphans’ court in a 5 county, or the court exercising the jurisdiction of the orphans’ court in a county. 6 2–108. 7 (s) (1) The Chief Judge of the Court for Somerset County shall receive an 8 annual salary of [$3,800] $5,200 to be paid quarterly. 9 (2) Each of the associate judges of the Court for Somerset County shall 10 receive an annual salary of [$3,400] $4,800 to be paid quarterly. 11 (3) Each judge shall also receive a daily allowance for traveling expenses 12 of [$34.50] $55 for every day’s attendance on the sessions of the Court. 13 Article 20 – Somerset County 14 2–101. 15 (a) There are 5 County Commissioners for Somerset County, who hold office for 4 16 years and until their successors are elected and qualified. 17 (b) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, each 18 Commissioner shall receive an annual salary of [$8,500] $10,000. 19 (2) The President of the County Commissioners shall receive an annual 20 salary of [$9,500] $11,000. 21 9–104. 22 (a) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, the members of 23 the County Roads Board shall each receive, in addition to their compensation as County 24 Commissioners, a salary of [$7,500] $10,000 annually as a member of the County Roads 25 Board. 26 (2) The President of the County Roads Board shall receive, in addition to 27 compensation received as President of the County Commissioners, an annual salary of 28 [$8,500] $11,000. 29 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III, § 35 30 4 HOUSE BILL 382 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary 1 or compensation of the Sheriff of Somerset County, the State’s Attorney for Somerset 2 County, the Chief Judge of the Orphans’ Court for Somerset County, an associate judge of 3 the Orphans’ Court for Somerset County, the County Commissioners of Somerset County, 4 the President of the County Commissioners of Somerset County, a member of the County 5 Roads Board of Somerset County, or the President of the County Roads Board of Somerset 6 County while serving in a term of office beginning before the effective date of this Act, but 7 the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Somerset 8 County, the State’s Attorney for Somerset County, the Chief Judge of the Orphans’ Court 9 for Somerset County, an associate judge of the Orphans’ Court for Somerset County, the 10 County Commissioners of Somerset County, the President of the County Commissioners of 11 Somerset County, a member of the County Roads Board of Somerset County, or the 12 President of the County Roads Board of Somerset County shall take effect at the beginning 13 of the next following term of office. This limitation does not apply to an individual appointed 14 or elected after the effective date of this Act to fill out an unexpired term. 15 SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 16 October 1, 2022. 17
