AN ACT concerning 1 
 
Department of Juvenile Services – Facilities – J. DeWeese Carter Center 2 
 
FOR the purpose of repealing an obsolete reference to the J. DeWeese Carter Center in a 3 
provision relating to certain facilities operated by the Department of Juvenile 4 
Services; and generally relating to the Department of Juvenile Services. 5 
 
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, 6 
 Article – Human Services 7 
 Section 9–226 8 
 Annotated Code of Maryland 9 
 (2019 Replacement Volume and 2021 Supplement) 10 
 
 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 11 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 12 
 
Article – Human Services 13 
 
9–226. 14 
 
 (a) The Department may establish and operate the facilities that are necessary 15 
to properly diagnose, care for, [train,] educate, and rehabilitate children who need these 16 
services. 17 
 
 (b) The facilities described in subsection (a) of this section include: 18 
 
 (1) the Alfred D. Noyes Children’s Center; 19 
 
 (2) the Baltimore City Juvenile Justice Center; 20  2 	SENATE BILL 172  
 
 
 
 (3) the Charles H. Hickey, Jr. School; 1 
 
 (4) the Cheltenham Youth Facility; 2 
 
 (5) [the J. DeWeese Carter Center; 3 
 
 (6)] the Lower Eastern Shore Children’s Center; 4 
 
 [(7)] (6) the Thomas J. S. Waxter Children’s Center; 5 
 
 [(8)] (7) the Victor Cullen Center; 6 
 
 [(9)] (8) the Western Maryland Children’s Center; 7 
 
 [(10)] (9) the Garrett Children’s Center; and 8 
 
 [(11)] (10) the youth centers. 9 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect July 10 
1, 2022. 11
