BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 20 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 21 Article – Courts and Judicial Proceedings 22 2–324. 23 (a) This section applies only in Frederick County. 24 2 SENATE BILL 746 [(b) The Sheriff of Frederick County shall receive an annual salary of $125,000.] 1 (B) (1) THE SALARY FOR THE SHERIFF OF FREDERICK COUNTY IS EQUAL 2 TO THE SALARY OF A DEPARTMENT OF STATE POLICE LIEUTENANT COL ONEL AT 3 THE HIGHEST AVAILABL E STEP FOR A LIEUTEN ANT COLONEL UNDER TH E 4 DEPARTMENT OF STATE POLICE PAY PLAN IN EF FECT ON THE DAY PRIO R TO THE 5 DAY THAT THE SHERIFF BEGINS A TERM OF OFFICE. 6 (2) ANY CHANGE IN THE SAL ARY PAID UNDER THE DEPARTMENT OF 7 STATE POLICE PAY PLAN DURIN G THE TERM OF OFFICE OF THE SHERIFF MAY NOT 8 APPLY TO THE INCUMBE NT SHERIFF, BUT THE CHANGED RATE SHALL TAKE EFFECT 9 AT THE BEGINNING OF THE NEX T FOLLOWING TERM OF OFFICE. 10 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That , pursuant to Article III, § 35 11 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary 12 or compensation of the Sheriff of Frederick County while serving in a term of office 13 beginning before the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the 14 salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Frederick County shall take effect at the beginning 15 of the next following term of office. This limitation does not apply to an individual appointed 16 or elected after the effective date of this Act to fill out an unexpired term. 17 SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 18 October 1, 2022. 19
