Maryland Longitudinal Data System – Definition of Student Data – Alteration 2 
 
FOR the purpose of altering the definition of “student data” for purposes of the Maryland 3 
Longitudinal Data System to include student disability data by specific disability 4 
category; and generally relating to student data and the Maryland Longitudinal 5 
Data System. 6

 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 17 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 18

 (a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated. 1 
 
 (b) “Center” means the Maryland Longitudinal Data System Center. 2 
 
 (l) (1) “Student data” means data relating to or impacting student 3 
performance. 4 
 
 (2) “Student data” includes: 5 
 
 (i) State and national assessments; 6 
 
 (ii) Course–taking and completion; 7 
 
 (iii) Grade point average; 8 
 
 (iv) Remediation; 9 
 
 (v) Retention; 10 
 
 (vi) Degree, diploma, or credential attainment; 11 
 
 (vii) Enrollment; 12 
 
 (viii) Demographic data; 13 
 
 (ix) Juvenile delinquency records; 14 
 
 (x) Elementary and secondary school disciplinary records; 15 
 
 (xi) Child welfare data; 16 
 
 (xii) License, industry certificate, or vocational certificate; [and] 17 
 
 (xiii) Personally identifiable information; AND 18 
 
 (XIV) STUDENT DISABILITY DA TA BY SPECIFIC DISAB ILITY 19 
CATEGORY. 20 
 
 (3) “Student data” does not include medical and health records. 21 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect July 22 
1, 2023. 23
