BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 17 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 18 Article – Courts and Judicial Proceedings 19 2–324. 20 2 SENATE BILL 462 (a) This section applies only in Frederick County. 1 (b) (1) The SALARY FOR THE Sheriff of Frederick County [shall receive an 2 annual salary of $125,000] IS EQUAL TO THE SALA RY OF A DEPARTMENT OF STATE 3 POLICE LIEUTENANT COLONEL, AT THE HIGHEST AVAIL ABLE STEP FOR A 4 LIEUTENANT COLONEL U NDER THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE POLICE PAY PLAN IN 5 EFFECT ON THE DAY PR IOR TO THE DAY THAT THE SHERIFF BEGINS A TERM OF 6 OFFICE. 7 (2) ANY CHANGE IN THE SAL ARY PAID UNDER THE DEPARTMENT OF 8 STATE POLICE PAY PLAN DURIN G THE TERM OF OFFICE OF THE SHERIFF MAY NOT 9 APPLY TO THE INCUMBE NT SHERIFF, BUT THE CHANGED RATE SHALL TAKE EFFECT 10 AT THE BEGINNING OF THE NEXT FOLLOWING T ERM OF OFFICE. 11 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Articl e III, § 35 12 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary 13 or compensation of the Sheriff of Frederick County while serving in a term of office 14 beginning before the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the 15 salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Frederick County shall take effect at the beginning 16 of the next following term of office. This limitation does not apply to an individual appointed 17 or elected after the effective date of this Act to fill out an unexpired term. 18 SECTION 3.
