BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 16 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 17 Article – Courts and Judicial Proceedings 18 2–316. 19 (a) This section applies only in Baltimore City. 20 (d) (1) The Sheriff shall appoint: 21 (i) An undersheriff or chief deputy sheriff; 22 2 SENATE BILL 486 (ii) [One] THREE assistant [sheriff] SHERIFFS; 1 (iii) Three deputy sheriff majors; 2 (iv) Three deputy sheriff captains; 3 (v) Six deputy sheriff lieutenants; 4 (vi) One secretary sheriff; and 5 (vii) One fiscal clerk sheriff. 6 (2) (I) The Sheriff may appoint up to a maximum of: 7 [(i)] 1. 9 deputy sheriff sergeants; 8 [(ii)] 2. 103 deputy sheriffs; 9 [(iii)] 3. 2 domestic violence clerks; [and] 10 [(iv)] 4. 2 domestic violence advocates; AND 11 5. 4 SOCIAL WORKERS. 12 (II) THE SHERIFF MAY APPOINT ANY ADDITIONAL SWORN OR 13 CIVILIAN PERSONNEL T HAT ARE FUNDED BY THE SHERIFF’S OPERATING BUDGET 14 OR BY ANY OTHER FUNDING SOURCE . 15 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 16 October 1, 2023. 17
