AN ACT concerning 1 
 
Anne Arundel County – Sheriff – Salary 2 
 
FOR the purpose of altering the salary of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County; and generally 3 
relating to the salary of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County. 4 
 
BY repealing and reenacting, with amendments, 5 
 Article – Courts and Judicial Proceedings 6 
Section 2–315(b) 7 
 Annotated Code of Maryland 8

 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 10 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 11 
 
Article – Courts and Judicial Proceedings 12 
 
2–315. 13 
 
 (b) The Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall receive an annual salary of: 14 
 
 (1) (I) $128,657 for calendar year 2014; and 15 
 
 [(2)] (II) $133,000 for calendar year 2015 [and each subsequent calendar 16 
year] THROUGH CALENDAR YEA R 2024. 17 
 
 (2) BEGINNING IN CALENDAR YEAR 2025, THE SHERIFF OF ANNE 18 
ARUNDEL COUNTY SHALL RECEIVE AN ANNUAL SALARY EQU AL TO THE SALARY OF 19 
A CAPTAIN IN THE ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY POLICE DEPARTMENT AT STEP 20 IN 20 
THE PAY SCALE. 21

 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, pursuant to Article III, § 35 1 
of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to the salary 2 
or compensation of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County while serving in a term of office 3 
beginning before the effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the 4 
salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Anne Arundel County shall take effect at the 5 
beginning of the next following term of office. This limitation does not apply to an individual 6 
appointed or elected after the effective date of this Act to fill out an unexpired term. 7 
  
 SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 8 
October 1, 2024. 9
