BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF MARYLAND, 15 That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 16 Article – Business Occupations and Professions 17 5–201. 18 There is a State Board of Cosmetologists in the Department. 19 5–202. 20 (a) (1) The Board consists of seven members. 21 (2) Of the seven members of the Board: 22 2 SENATE BILL 629 (i) four shall be licensed cosmetologists; 1 (ii) ONE SHALL BE A LICEN SED ESTHETICIAN ; 2 (III) one shall be affiliated with a private cosmetology school as an 3 educator or owner; and 4 [(iii)] (IV) [two] ONE shall be A consumer [members] MEMBER. 5 (3) The Governor shall appoint the members with the ad vice of the 6 Secretary. 7 (c) [Each] THE consumer member of the Board: 8 (1) shall be a member of the general public; 9 (2) may not be a licensee or otherwise be subject to regulation by the Board; 10 (3) may not be required to meet the qualifications for the professional 11 members of the Board; and 12 (4) may not, within 1 year before appointment, have had a financial 13 interest in or have received compensation from a person regulated by the Board. 14 (d) While a member of the Board, [a] THE consumer member may not: 15 (1) have a financial interest in or receive compensation from a person 16 regulated by the Board; or 17 (2) grade any examination given by or for the Board. 18 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 19 October 1, 2024. 20
