Somerset County – Salaries of Local Officials – Increase 2 
 
FOR the purpose of increasing the salaries of the Sheriff of Somerset County, the County 3 
Commissioners of Somerset County, the President of the County Commissioners of 4 
Somerset County, a member of the County Roads Board of Somerset County, and the 5 
President of the County Roads Board of Somerset County; and generally relating to 6 
the salaries of Somerset County public officials. 7

 Article 20 – Public Local Laws of Maryland 22 
 (2015 Edition, as amended) 23 
 (As enacted by Chapters 613 and 614 of the Acts of the General Assembly of 2022) 24 
 
 SECTION 1. BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY O F MARYLAND, 25 
That the Laws of Maryland read as follows: 26

 (b) (1) The Sheriff of Somerset County shall receive an annual salary of not 3 
less than [$85,000] $105,000. 4 
 
Article 20 – Somerset County 5 
 
2–101. 6 
 
 (a) There are 5 County Commissioners for Somerset County, who hold office for 4 7 
years and until their successors are elected and qualified. 8 
 
 (b) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, each 9 
Commissioner shall receive an annual salary of [$10,000] $12,000. 10 
 
 (2) The President of the County Commissioners shall receive an annual 11 
salary of [$11,000] $13,000. 12

 (a) (1) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, the members of 14 
the County Roads Board shall each receive, in addition to their compensation as County 15 
Commissioners, a salary of [$10,000] $12,000 annually as a member of the County Roads 16 
Board. 17 
 
 (2) The President of the County Roads Board shall receive, in addition to 18 
compensation received as President of the County Commissioners, an annual salary of 19 
[$11,000] $13,000. 20 
 
 SECTION 2. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That, in accordance with Article 21 
III, § 35 of the Maryland Constitution, this Act may not be construed to extend or apply to 22 
the salary or compensation of the Sheriff of Somerset County, the County Commissioners 23 
of Somerset County, the President of the County Commissioners of Somerset County, a 24 
member of the County Roads Board of Somerset County, or the President of the County 25 
Roads Board of Somerset County while serving in a term of office beginning before the 26 
effective date of this Act, but the provisions of this Act concerning the salary or 27 
compensation of the Sheriff of Somerset County, the County Commissioners of Somerset 28 
County, the President of the County Commissioners of Somerset County, a member of the 29 
County Roads Board of Somerset County, and the President of the County Roads Board of 30 
Somerset County shall take effect at the beginning of the next following term of office. This 31 
limitation does not apply to an individual appointed or elected after the effective date of 32 
this Act to fill out an unexpired term. 33 
 
 SECTION 3. AND BE IT FURTHER ENACTED, That this Act shall take effect 34 
October 1, 2025. 35
