Page 1 - 131LR2738(01)1 acts and resolves of the Legislature do not 2 become effective until 90 days after adjournment unless enacted as emergencies; and 3 this legislation must take effect before the expiration of the 90-day period 4 in order to timely address the urgent transportation needs of MaineCare patients and their 5 families; and 6 in the judgment of the Legislature, these facts create an emergency within 7 the meaning of the Constitution of Maine and require the following legislation as 8 immediately necessary for the preservation of the public peace, health and safety; now, 9 therefore, 10 11 is enacted to read: 12 13 A MaineCare member using MaineCare-contracted nonemergency transportation 14 services to travel to a MaineCare-reimbursable appointment may elect to have one adult 15 accompany the MaineCare member while traveling. 16 17 The Department of Health and Human Services, pursuant to the Maine Revised Statutes, 18 Title 22, section 3174-NNN, shall amend its rule Chapter 101: MaineCare Benefits Manual, 19 Chapter II, Section 113, Non-Emergency Transportation (NET) Services to require 20 MaineCare contracts with providers of nonemergency transportation to include provisions 21 allowing one adult to accompany a MaineCare member to a MaineCare-reimbursable 22 appointment. 23 24 takes effect when approved. 25 26 This bill provides that a MaineCare member using MaineCare-contracted 27 nonemergency transportation services to travel to a MaineCare-reimbursable appointment 28 may elect to have one adult accompany the MaineCare member while traveling. It directs 29 the Department of Health and Human Services to amend its rules to require MaineCare 30 contracts with providers of nonemergency transportation to include provisions allowing 31 one adult to accompany a MaineCare member to a MaineCare-reimbursable appointment. 26 27 28 29 30 31
