This process could increase the adult corrections system population. It is unclear how many additional individuals could be committed to an adult corrections facility who otherwise would not have been. The current average cost of incarcerating one individual for a single year is $55,203. The Department of Corrections would require General Fund appropriations of $257,387 in fiscal year 2025-26 and $249,895 in fiscal year 2026-27 for one Resource Coordinator position and related costs to process and respond to motions for new juvenile court dispositions and additional Office of the Attorney General costs. 132nd MAINE LEGISLATURE An Act to Authorize Judicial Disposition of a Juvenile Adjudicated of Murder or a Class A Crime to a Term of Commitment Extending Beyond the Juvenile's 21st Birthday Preliminary Fiscal Impact Statement for Original Bill Sponsor: Rep.
