1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to housing; establishing the Minnesota Nice HomeShare pilot program 1.3 for seniors in the counties of Lake, St. Louis, and Washington; appropriating 1.4 money. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. MINNESOTA NICE HOMESHARE PILOT PROGRAM. 1.7 (a) The commissioner of the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency must establish and 1.8administer the Minnesota Nice HomeShare pilot program to award a grant under this section. 1.9The commissioner shall award a grant for assisting seniors in the counties of Lake, St. Louis, 1.10and Washington to reduce living expenses by matching seniors who own homes with spare 1.11rooms to adults in need of affordable housing. For the purposes of this section, "senior" 1.12means a person 55 years of age or older. The commissioner may partner with the Arrowhead 1.13Area Agency on Aging and AARP Minnesota to promote the program. 1.14 (b) A grantee must: 1.15 (1) assist hosts and renters over the telephone, through a text chat function or by video; 1.16 (2) collect and process rental payments from renters and distribute payments to hosts in 1.17a timely manner; 1.18 (3) protect the private information and data of hosts and renters; 1.19 (4) conduct background checks on hosts and renters, including contacting at least two 1.20references for each host and renter; 1.21 (5) acquire from renters employment verification or proof of school enrollment; and 1Section 1.
