Minnesota Senate Bill SF1336 Introduced / Bill

                    1.1	A bill for an act​
1.2 relating to education; allowing a school year to start before Labor Day for two​
1.3 school years; requiring a report.​
1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:​
1.5 Section 1. SCHOOL START DATE FOR THE 2025-2026 AND 2026-2027 SCHOOL​
1.6YEARS ONLY.​
1.7 (a) Notwithstanding Minnesota Statutes, section 120A.40, or other law to the contrary,​
1.8for the 2025-2026 and 2026-2027 school years only, a school board may vote to begin the​
1.9school year before Labor Day.​
1.10 (b) A district that begins the school year before Labor Day under this section must report​
1.11its start date to the commissioner of education in the form and manner determined by the​
1.12commissioner. By January 5, 2027, the commissioner must submit a report to the legislative​
1.13committees with jurisdiction over kindergarten through grade 12 education listing the school​
1.14districts that began the 2025-2026 or 2026-2027 school year after Labor Day.​
1.15 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment.​
