1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to energy; exempting electricity generated outside the state from the 1.3 requirement that a certain proportion of retail electricity be carbon-free by certain 1.4 dates; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 216B.1691, subdivision 2g. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 216B.1691, subdivision 2g, is amended to 1.7read: 1.8 Subd. 2g.Carbon-free standard.(a) In addition to the requirements under subdivisions 1.92a and 2f, each electric utility must generate or procure sufficient electricity generated from 1.10a carbon-free energy technology to provide the electric utility's retail customers in Minnesota, 1.11or the retail customers of a distribution utility to which the electric utility provides wholesale 1.12electric service, so that the electric utility generates or procures an amount of electricity 1.13from carbon-free energy technologies that is equivalent to at least the following standard 1.14percentages of the electric utility's total retail electric sales to retail customers in Minnesota 1.15by the end of the year indicated: 80 percent for public utilities; 60 percent for 1.17 other electric utilities 20301.16 (1) 90 percent for all electric utilities20351.18 (2) 100 percent for all electric utilities.20401.19 (3) 1.20 (b) This subdivision does not apply to electricity generated outside of Minnesota. 1.21 EFFECTIVE DATE.This section is effective the day following final enactment. 1Section 1. 25-00929 as introduced12/05/24 REVISOR RSI/CH SENATE STATE OF MINNESOTA S.F.
