1.1 A bill for an act
1.2 relating to capital investment; appropriating money for a new animal hospital and
1.3 asset preservation at the Minnesota Zoo; authorizing the sale and issuance of state
1.4 bonds.
1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. MINNESOTA ZOO; ANIMAL HOSPITAL AND ASSET
1.7PRESERVATION.
1.8 Subdivision 1.Appropriation.(a) $21,475,000 is appropriated from the bond proceeds
1.9fund to the Minnesota Zoological Board for capital improvements at the Minnesota Zoo.
1.10 (b) Of this amount, $17,675,000 is to design, construct, furnish, and equip a new animal
1.11hospital building at the Minnesota Zoological Garden.
1.12 (c) Of this amount, $3,800,000 is for capital asset preservation improvements and
1.13betterments to infrastructure and exhibits at the Minnesota Zoo, to be spent in accordance
1.14with Minnesota Statutes, section 16B.307. Notwithstanding the specified uses of money
1.15under Minnesota Statutes, section 16B.307, the amount of this appropriation designated for
1.16asset preservation may be used to replace buildings that are in poor condition, outdated,
1.17and no longer support the work of the Minnesota Zoological Garden and to construct and
1.18renovate trails and roads on the Minnesota Zoological Garden site.
1.19 Subd. 2.Bond sale.To provide the money appropriated in this section from the bond
1.20proceeds fund, the commissioner of management and budget shall sell and issue bonds of
1.21the state in an amount up to $21,475,000 in the manner, upon the terms, and with the effect
1.22prescribed by Minnesota Statutes, sections 16A.631 to 16A.675, and by the Minnesota
1.23Constitution, article XI, sections 4 to 7.
