1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to local government; increasing the allowable number of statutory city 1.3 public utility commission members; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 1.4 412.341, subdivision 1. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 412.341, subdivision 1, is amended to read: 1.7 Subdivision 1.Membership.(a) The commission shall consist of three, five, or seven 1.8members appointed by the council. No more than one member may be chosen from the 1.9council membership. Except for the terms of members appointed to the initial commission 1.10as provided in paragraph (b), each member shall serve for a term of three years and until a 1.11successor is appointed and qualified except that of the members initially appointed in any 1.12city, one shall serve for a term of one year, one for a term of two years, and one for a term 1.13of three years. Residence shall not be a qualification for membership on the commission 1.14unless the council so provides. A vacancy shall be filled by the council for the unexpired 1.15term. 1.16 (b) The members appointed to the initial commission after its establishment under section 1.17412.331 shall serve the following terms: 1.18 (1) if the initial commission consists of three members, one member shall serve for a 1.19term of one year, one for a term of two years, and one for a term of three years; 1.20 (2) if the initial commission consists of five members, one member shall serve a term 1.21of one year, two for a term for two years, and two for a term of three years; or 1Section 1. 25-02894 as introduced01/28/25 REVISOR MS/HL SENATE STATE OF MINNESOTA S.F.
