1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to public safety; amending the authority of the Independent Use of Force 1.3 Investigations Unit to investigate certain offenses that occur on state-owned military 1.4 installations; amending Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 299C.80, subdivision 3. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. Minnesota Statutes 2024, section 299C.80, subdivision 3, is amended to read: 1.7 Subd. 3.Additional duty.(a) The unit shall investigate all criminal sexual conduct 1.8cases: 1.9 (1) involving peace officers, including criminal sexual conduct cases involving chief 1.10law enforcement officers; and 1.11 (2) where a member of the Minnesota National Guard armed forces of the United States 1.12is either the victim, or the accused is a member of the Minnesota National Guard, regardless 1.13of the state of residence or the location of the assigned unit of the accused or alleged victim, 1.14and the incident occurred in Minnesota at a military installation, armory, air base, or facility 1.15owned or controlled by the state for military purposes. 1.16 (b) The unit shall assist the agency investigating an alleged sexual assault of a member 1.17of the Minnesota National Guard armed forces of the United States by another member of 1.18the Minnesota National Guard armed forces of the United States that occurred in a jurisdiction 1.19outside of the state, if the investigating agency requests assistance from the unit. 1.20 (c) The unit may also investigate conflict of interest cases involving peace officers. 1Section 1. 25-00802 as introduced12/09/24 REVISOR KLL/LN SENATE STATE OF MINNESOTA S.F.
