1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA:
1.6 Section 1. [136A.247] PLANT-BASED FOODS PRODUCTION TRAINING PILOT
1.7PROGRAM.
1.8 The commissioner of higher education shall establish and administer a plant-based foods
1.9production training pilot program to award grants to secondary career and technical education
1.10programs and institutions of higher education for the purpose of offering instruction in
1.11plant-based food production. The commissioner must give priority to institutions that
1.12coordinate with local producers of plant-based foods. Grants may be used for costs, including
1.13but not limited to:
1.14 (1) equipment required to produce plant-based foods;
1.15 (2) facility renovations to accommodate plant-based food production; and
1.16 (3) training faculty to teach the fundamentals of plant-based food production.
1.17Sec. 2. APPROPRIATION.
1.18 $500,000 in fiscal year 2026 is appropriated from the general fund to the commissioner
1.19of higher education for the plant-based foods production training pilot program under
1.20Minnesota Statutes, section 136A.247. This is a onetime appropriation and is available until
1.21June 30, 2027.
