1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 relating to transportation; modifying the allocation of proceeds from the regional 1.3 transportation sales and use tax; providing funding for suicide prevention barriers 1.4 on the Washington Avenue Pedestrian Bridge. 1.5BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.6 Section 1. ALLOCATION; ACTIVE TRANSPORTATION; WASHINGTON 1.7AVENUE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE. 1.8 Of the revenue collected under Minnesota Statutes, section 297A.9915, and allocated 1.9to the Metropolitan Council for active transportation purposes under Minnesota Statutes, 1.10section 473.4465, subdivision 2, paragraph (a), clause (1), the Metropolitan Council must 1.11provide a grant of $15,000,000 in fiscal year 2026 to the Board of Regents of the University 1.12of Minnesota to be spent in accordance with Minnesota Statutes, section 135A.046. This 1.13grant is to design and construct the replacement of the pedestrian enclosure and suicide 1.14deterrent barriers on the Washington Avenue Pedestrian Bridge on the Twin Cities campus. 1.15The board must consult with persons affected by suicide at this bridge, suicide prevention 1.16organizations, and experts in the field of suicide prevention in designing the project.
